Awards

The People’s Health Foundation (PHF) of Myanmar received the World Health Organization’s 2026 World No-Tobacco Day Award for its exceptional, long-standing contributions to tobacco control and the prevention of non-communicable diseases. Collaborating with government ministries and civil society, PHF has been instrumental in advancing critical public health legislation, notably driving the enforcement of the 2006 Tobacco Law and successfully overcoming industry resistance to secure the implementation of standardized packaging by late 2025. Through strategic advocacy, the organization has also established award-winning smoke-free heritage sites, strengthened tobacco taxation, and successfully pushed for an early 2026 comprehensive ban on electronic smoking devices, solidifying its role as a vital protector of public health against both traditional and emerging nicotine threats in Myanmar.
