Regional Review on establishing smoke-free in 9 Regions/States

Yangon, 24-25 January 2019: The People’s Health Foundation (PHF), in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Sports, organized a 2-day workshop on review of progress on establishing smoke-free places in 9 Regions and States, held at Shwe Naing Ngan Hotel, Mandalay. The workshop reviewed the progress of implementation on establishment of smoke-free places in 6 Regions and 3 States, and had consensus on moving forward for establishing more smokefree places. Recommendations were also made to establish model townships/places of 100% smoke free places, such as Smoke-free Bagan Ancient City, Smoke-free Pindaya Township, Smoke-free Bago City, Smoke-free Kyaik Hti Yoe pagoda (Goldden Rock Pagoda), Kyaik Hto, Mon State, etc.

Regional/State Ministers from respective State/Region Governments, senior health officials from respective States/Regions, Administrators and Health Officials from selected Townships joined the review workshop. Expert from SEATCA and PHF joined as resource persons.
